Adam Barsby

Adam Barsby was born in Leicester in 1969 and studied at the Loughborough College of Art, and later at the Kent Institute of Art and Design, Maidstone where he graduated in 1992.

Initially after graduating he began working as a freelance illustrator for various well known publications but soon directed his attentions to painting.

Depth in Adam's work is achieved by tonal, abstract shapes and textures which float between both foreground and background. This in turn gives independence to more figurative elements of the still life or landscape rendered in line which has either been scraped or drawn on.

Adam's work is influenced by the St Ives artists of the 1930's and 40's. He is particularly inspired by the work of Ben Nicholson and Alfred Wallis.

Adam has gained the prestigious John Solomon Trophy for Best Selling Artist for 1998 and the Fine Art Trade Guild accolade for Best Up and Coming Artist for 1999.

“There is a tranquillity in my pictures which stems from a combination of inherent simplicity and lyrical narrative”
