Steven Brown

Steven Brown was born in February 1957, in Teddington, Middlesex. He was educated at Hampton Grammar School and then went on to study Art at Richmond upon Thames College, where he received a thorough grounding in life drawing, painting and anatomy.

After leaving college, Steven worked as a freelance illustrator for two years. For the next eight years, he worked as an animator/designer with a film and video production company where he designed many successful concepts and animations.

It was during the time that he spent animating the human figure that he first began to make clay maquettes. As a result he began to attend a life sculpture class at Richmond College. After visiting the Musee Rodin whilst on holiday in Paris, Steven began to spend more and more time on life sculpture.

He has now returned to being a freelance artist, and devotes his time to drawing, painting and sculpture. He mostly works with the female nude as he finds it the most expressive and sensual form.

The sculptures are modelled in clay from life, with preparatory drawings and sketches. A mould is then made from the clay original and the final sculptures are individually cast in bronze resin and hand finished.

Steven currently lives in Sussex with his wife and two children.
