Joe Cousin

Joe was born and spent his childhood in Mauritius. He has an honours degree in Physics from Birbeck College, London University.

Essentially self-taught, Joe has been painting professionally since 1985 since he left the telecommunications industry. He works in oils, watercolours, acrylics and pastels. A stubborn experimenter and colourist, his style is as varied as the mood takes him or the subject demands. Joe is equally at home with the figurative as with the abstract. With landscapes, he prefers to work en plein air. In this context, he is an admirer of Sargent, Sisley and Bonnard.

Joe is a tutor at Truro College and St. Austell College in Cornwall. He also gives regular demonstrations to art societies in the South West.

His work has been shown at various open exhibitions. In 1977, Joe was chosen the outright winner of the sponsor’s prize at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Open Pastel Exhibition. In the last few years, he has been active in selling rather than exhibiting his work. Patrons have included the Bank of America, The Royal Bank of Scotland, Arsenal Football Club, the RAC and Mercedes Benz.
