Johannes Erdmans
The Friesian Johannes Erdmans has developed a style that is strongly reminiscent of the Romantic school. He was born on 15th October 1950 in Sneek in The Netherlands and grew up in Bolsward.
He has been interested in drawing small-size sailing ships since childhood. For some time, he received training at the Leeuwardian Academy of Art, but soon discovered that working in groups and making abstract art was not of interest to him.
From that time onwards, Johannes Erdmans went his own way and continued drawing and painting in his own style and vision. He prefers painting still lifes, but also paints landscapes and ships. As he continues to paint the admiration he feels towards the Old Dutch masters grows and grows. Without actually having a certain preference, Erdmans work gives distinct evidence of this inspiration.
