Contemporary landscape art encompasses a broad range of painting styles with a shared theme of the landscape. Artists often develop a particular style they enjoy and often this leads to a stylised representation of the subject. For example artist Jay Nottingham depicts deep inky skies and brightly lit foregrounds with a recognisable flair for luminous greens. This style is instantly recognisable as a landscape but not necessarily an accurate depiction. It may be that a contemporary landscape painting shares components of a more traditional landscape painting as well as containing abstract and contemporary elements.
