Juan Antonio Domínguez
Juan Antonio Domínguez was born in 1966 in the Spanish port city of Huelva. From an early age, he showed a strong connection to the representational world around him, with his artistic interests encouraged by a supportive family. His talent was evident early on, and he soon began exhibiting his work in solo shows in Seville, followed by exhibitions in cities across Spain.
Domínguez travelled to Madrid to deepen his study of the great Castilian masters and to gain a broader understanding of Spain’s artistic heritage. He refined his technique and developed a disciplined, evolving approach to painting. A commitment to continual learning remains central to his practice and underpins the strength and maturity of his work.
Juan Antonio Domínguez draws much of his inspiration from the local landscape, specialising in finely observed seascapes that reveal beauty in often overlooked details. His paintings of sand dunes are particularly sought after by collectors, noted for their careful depiction of form and the long, atmospheric shadows cast by the setting sun. Alongside these works, his still life paintings offer a quieter, more contemplative mood, characterised by subtle tonal palettes and a gentle, dreamlike quality.
Across all subject matter, Domínguez is recognised for his keen eye for detail, confident composition and masterful handling of reflected light, qualities that distinguish his work within contemporary Spanish realism.
In addition to his painting practice, Juan Antonio Domínguez has dedicated over twenty years to teaching, running workshops for aspiring artists and sharing the knowledge gained throughout his career. He continues to live and work in his hometown of Huelva.
Forest Gallery is proud to be the exclusive UK representative of Juan Antonio Domínguez, presenting his work both in our galleries and online.
