Simon Wright is a contemporary British cityscape artist whose vibrant paintings capture the energy, movement and atmosphere of urban life. Born in West Yorkshire in 1974, Wright developed a passion for drawing and painting at an early age, later studying illustration at the University of Hull. After graduating, he began his career in commercial illustration before gradually transitioning into fine art, where he could explore a more expressive and personal style.

Wright is best known for his dynamic cityscapes, which combine bold colour, strong composition and energetic brushwork. Working primarily in oils and acrylics, he builds up richly textured surfaces using layers of impasto and expressive mark-making. His paintings balance recognisable landmarks with a looser, more abstract approach, allowing light, colour and movement to take centre stage. Rain-slicked streets, glowing skies and bustling city scenes are recurring themes, each painted with a sense of immediacy and vitality.

Cities such as London, Paris and New York provide ongoing inspiration, with Wright seeking to capture not just their architecture but their character and rhythm. His background in illustration lends clarity and structure to his work, while his painterly technique brings emotion and spontaneity. The result is a contemporary take on the cityscape genre that feels both accessible and visually striking.

Simon Wright’s work sits naturally within Forest Gallery’s collection, offering collectors a fresh and modern interpretation of urban scenes. His cityscapes appeal to those drawn to expressive, atmospheric paintings that celebrate the life and energy of the modern city.

Simon Wright also undertakes commissioned cityscape paintings through Forest Gallery.
