Hiroko Lewis’s original paintings bring together richly weathered surfaces, metallic light and a compelling sense of stillness. Abstract and landscape-like forms emerge through layered passages of turquoise, deep blue, violet, rust, ochre and near-black, evoking rock, water, forest, sky and ancient places without fixing them into literal scenes.

Working in oils and mixed media, Lewis combines metal leaf with chemical patination, allowing reactions to develop over time before balancing their unpredictable details within carefully structured compositions. Gold, silver and coppery tones shift with the light, contrasting with areas of soft colour and darker depth. Painted predominantly on panel, with work on canvas also represented, the collection ranges from intimate small paintings to expansive large-scale pieces.
