On The Hill – L.S. Lowryish
Why we love this piece
Chris Chapman’s playful take on L.S. Lowry’s iconic scenes is what truly captivates us. ‘On The Hill – L.S. Lowryish’ explores the intersection of homage and parody, inviting us to admire its skill while smiling at its wit. It’s a delightful twist on familiar terrain.

Chris Chapman has been a successful illustrator since graduating from Leicester College of Art in England in 1979, where he studied graphic design. After moving to London during the early years of his career, he now lives and works in Bournemouth, Dorset.
He currently produces paintings exclusively for the fine art market and for Chris creating the visual joke is just as important as the execution of the painting. His paintings play on famous artists’ work such as L.S. Lowry, Monet and Picasso and are highly in demand given that Chris Chapman does not produce many per year.
Chris Chapman’s paintings have been exhibited widely in a number of galleries including the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Chris uses a variety of media depending on the particular project he is working on. This can be seen as looking through his portfolio which shows examples in acrylics, coloured pencils, gouache and graphite pencil.
