Born in the industrial city of Donetsk, Ukraine in 1961, Andrei Protsouk demonstrated an exceptional gift for art from a young age. With both parents working in creative industries it was natural for Protsouk to follow suit.
On leaving school, Andrei Protsouk attended the prestigious Lugansk School of Fine Art. From here he pursued a Masters Degree at the Ilya Repin Leningrad Institute. This institute is widely regarded as holding one of the world’s finest art training programmes. Here, Protsouk studied under Evsey Moiseenko, a world renowned contemporary of Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso. Moiseenko adopted Protsouk as his protégée, recognising the potential of his already remarkable talent. During these former years Protsouk used heavy textures and dark palettes as a result of the Soviet living environment.
In 1994 Protsouk moved to the USA where he quickly established himself as a prominent figure on the contemporary art scene. His paintings became more colourful and his subjects more joyful. This was a direct reflection and celebration of life in the freedom of American society. Because of this, many of Protsouk’s artworks now centre around the universal theme of love. Above all, he depicts couples in the midst of passionate dances and embraces.
Unafraid to work to large scales, Andrei Protsouk creates elaborate pieces bursting with vibrant colours, intricate shapes and varied textures. He uses constructive lines, demonstrating an innate creative ability and understanding of the human form. Consequently, his work has drawn comparisons to the figurative works of Michaelangelo.
Never one to rest on his laurels, Protsouk currently works from a studio within his own gallery in Pennsylvania. He continues to experiment with a range of media and subject matter. As a result of his passion and dedication he has gained great commercial success completing commissions for global brands. His work hangs in private collections of significant figures, most noteworthy of which is George Bush, and as such is considered to have excellent investment potential.
We are delighted to have Andrei Protsouk’s work here at Forest Gallery. Please contact us for further information on available artworks.
