Mario Malfer
From a young age Italian artist Mario Malfer showed a promising talent for the arts, studying painting at the Academy of Milan and later design at Como. Born in Garda, Verona in 1941, Mario soon began a successful career working as a designer, however his true calling as a professional artist could not be held back for long and it is here that he has continued to inspire now into his 80s!
Mario is known for his unique style that celebrates the use of colour to break up geometric forms, giving his paintings a fascinating sense of movement and intrigue. Thanks to his artistic flair, he is able to successfully impart a subtle touch of Italian heritage into his paintings whilst maintaining his popular evocative style.
A key inspiration for Mario’s work rests in the underlying history of the landscape. The artist looks to represent elements of the past, envisioning the region with its previous generations that lived throughout the centuries and have left their traces. Tuscan villas, unkept vineyards and Roman columns all play their part in the multi-layered foregrounds of his beautiful paintings that never fail to capture a palpable sense of Italy.
During the artist’s professional career he has held numerous solo exhibitions across Europe including Venice, Rome, Zürich and with Forest Gallery in Guildford. It was in 1998 that Mario received the Italian Art Award “Premio Arte”, one of the most respected national competitions across Italy earning him deserved critical acclaim.
Mario Malfer is one of Forest Gallery’s long-standing artists and his paintings are in higher demand than ever following on from Mario’s successful exhibition ‘Beloning to Nature’ held at Forest Gallery Petworth in 2022.
