Manel is a contemporary artistic proposal born from the creative connection between two Spanish artists: Alejandro Tomás and Alex Calatayud. What began as a shared pursuit of continuous improvement and mutual learning soon evolved into something much deeper – a common visual language built on trust, experimentation, and a desire to create without ego.
Rather than blending styles, Alejandro and Alex chose to shape something new, layer by layer. The first works, created in their shared studio in Valencia, were exercises in exploration – of texture, of light, of silence. Over time, the collection matured into a refined visual dialogue, where every brushstroke and every blank space has meaning.
Manel’s works are created using mixed media techniques that include acrylics, oils, charcoal, ink, and natural pigments, among many other materials. The creative process is deeply intuitive and experimental, combining spontaneous gestures with areas of high technical precision. Subtle layers are superimposed to explore textures, transparencies, and visual depth, resulting in pieces that balance impulse with restraint.
The pieces in the Manel collection reflect a constant search for balance between spontaneity and control, between emptiness and substance. Negative space is not seen as absence, but as an active presence – a place where emotions breathe, where the viewer is invited to pause, observe with calm, and connect.
Manel’s works are not meant to be merely observed, but to be lived with. They have the ability to transform spaces with a quiet strength, resonating deeply with collectors and interior design professionals who value depth, harmony, and authenticity. What began as a personal journey between two artists has now become a soulful visual identity, one that continues to grow with honesty, sensitivity, and purpose.
