Manel
Manel was born in Valencia in 1990, surrounded by nature and silence. His home was an isolated chalet, where the light filtering through the trees and the sound of the wind were his constant companions. His mother, a passionate artist, ran an art shop in the village, and it was there that Manel took his first steps into the creative world, surrounded by brushes, canvases, and an imagination with no limits.
From an early age, he learned by observing. According to him, “My mother did not just paint; she translated what she saw in the world into something entirely her own.” This self-taught learning became the foundation of his artistic development. However, his parents’ separation marked a turning point in his life. For years, he lived disconnected from art, painting secretly in his room, hiding out of fear of his father’s disapproval. This period of repression left a deep imprint on his perception of emptiness, which years later would become the central theme of his work.
It was during his law studies, under pressure from his father, that Manel faced an emotional crisis. In his search for self-discovery, he left everything behind and embarked on a journey across Europe. In cities like Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin, and Budapest, he found inspiration in open spaces and cultural contrasts. In a small makeshift studio in Budapest, he picked up a paintbrush again. That work, marking his artistic rebirth, is now one of the most treasured pieces in his personal collection. “Returning to painting felt like going back to my mother’s shop. As if I could hear her voice again, explaining how an empty space can say as much as a filled one.”
Manel employs mixed techniques that combine various materials: acrylics, oils, charcoal, ink, and natural pigments, often applied in subtle layers to play with textures and transparencies. His creative process is intuitive and experimental, blending gestural strokes with carefully controlled areas. Manel’s artworks have been exhibited in independent art galleries throughout Europe in spaces known for their accessibility and focus on artistic authenticity.
