Jay Nottingham Cottages

Jay Nottingham’s cottage paintings pair quiet, solitary buildings with expansive skies and richly textured landscapes. Worked in acrylic on board or panel, these scenes use palette-knife and impasto techniques to give fields, shorelines, hills and woodland a tactile presence. Deep navy and midnight-blue skies create a dramatic backdrop for vivid greens, fiery oranges and golden tones, while warmly glowing windows bring a feeling of shelter to the stillness. Cottages sit beside water, among fields, beneath mountain ridges or near the coast, often appearing small within the surrounding land. Ranging from small, intimate works to large statement pieces, the collection balances bold colour and contrast with a tranquil evening atmosphere.
