Andrew Grant Kurtis
Andrew Grant Kurtis was born in London and is a British contemporary artist best known for his atmospheric oil paintings of cityscapes, landscapes and architectural subjects. His London works, in particular, are among his most celebrated, capturing iconic views of the city and the River Thames with a strong sense of light, structure and mood.
He studied at the London Technical College, where he gained a Licentiateship of the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers, before continuing his education at the Central School of Art and Design. There, he completed a Bachelor of Design with Honours, followed by a Master of Arts in 1977.
Although originally trained in graphic design, Grant Kurtis chose to develop his practice in a more classical and traditional direction. He works primarily in oils and is known for his disciplined technique and distinctive personal style, balancing strong composition with an expressive, painterly approach.
Alongside his London cityscapes, Andrew Grant Kurtis travels extensively throughout Scotland and the Lake District, gathering reference and inspiration directly from the landscape. These contrasting environments — urban and rural — continue to inform his work and subject matter.
He is an established artist represented by leading galleries worldwide. His work has also been widely commissioned and reproduced by publishers for prints, cards and ceramics.
