Michael Simpson Dogs
Michael Simpson’s dog sculptures capture the character, movement and companionship of a wide range of much-loved breeds. Spaniels, retrievers, Labradors, dachshunds, bulldogs, cockapoos and whippets appear in attentive seated poses, standing studies and lively groupings, with textured coats and distinctive forms carefully observed. Alongside individual portraits are scenes of dogs with puppies, running together or working beside hunters, including retrieving and shooting subjects.
Small in scale, the collection ranges from delicate miniatures to more substantial tabletop sculptures. Most are cast in pure or solid foundry bronze, including limited editions made by the traditional lost-wax method and finished with rich patinas. Selected pieces are cast in resin with an aged nickel finish, offering a brighter metallic character.
